Liz Johnson (Clower) Memorial Fund

Donation protected
Elizabeth Jane Johnson, commonly and dearly known as Liz, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 27th, 2019, surrounded by her loved ones. She is survived by her husband, Bill Clower, and her three girls: Blake Ellen Johnson, age 20; Quinn Courtney Clower, age 9; and Casey Jean Clower, age 7.

This site is to remember Liz, and to build a fund to support the family she left behind. We ask that you donate towards the immeasurable costs associated with Liz’s death; the immediate needs of Bill and the youngest two girls, costs of end-of-life arrangements, memorial services, out-of-pocket medical expenses, loss of income, and the everyday needs and resources that will benefit her girls now and for years to come.

For those that do not know, Liz became ill mid-May. When her fever reached 104, she went to the ER. Unfortunately, she was sent home without any serious diagnosis or treatment. Believing it was probably a virus, she went home to rest. Over the next five days, her condition deteriorated rapidly, and on Tuesday, May 21st, Bill called an ambulance. At the ER (again), the doctors identified a blood clot in Liz’s leg that was causing her severe pain. The blood clot was partially removed, but complications occurred and everything that could go wrong, did. Ultimately, Liz suffered massive brain bleeding, and as of Tuesday night, her brain had no activity whatsoever. As a result of the traumatic brain bleeding and injury, she was in the ICU at North Florida hospital the next six days, but Liz never recovered.

Bill is in the last year of his Master’s program at UF/FSU. He has excelled in his studies, and looks forward to earning his degree. This is essential as Quinn and Casey now depend jpon his support alone. Bill will have to complete at least one full year of unpaid internships prior to earning his degree and beginning a career in the field of social work.

There was no insurance to cover the expenses associated with the death, no life insurance or similar catastrophic benefits, as the death was sudden, unexpected, and Liz was just forty-four years old.

Liz was an amazing mom, sister, aunt, niece, and friend and she poured all her love and energy into those dearest to her. She was also a champion of autism education and awareness a supporter of the local organizations  that advocate for those with special needs associated with autism. As most of you know, Liz and Bill's daughter, Quinn, is on the autism spectrum, and it was in her years of experience supporting Quinn’s blossoming ability and developmental milestones, that she began to work with the wonderful therapists at  Gainesville's BASS center for children with autism, helped in the research of new behavioral therapies and education for children, and she and Quinn participated in clinical trials to further the study and research. Liz always worked to educate others in hopes that our schools and community could understand and act with compassion towards children and adults with disabilities, and the families and caretakers who love them.

Liz and her family have overcome enormous challenges throughout their lives, and right now they need our compassion, love, kindness, and support more than ever.

Feel free share your own memories below. Her friends and family would appreciate hearing from you.

There are not words to express how grateful we all are for the outpouring of support of the friends, family, and community members who have shown up in the wake of this loss.  Thank you.

With love,

Friends and family of Liz.
