We're on a mission to find out if internet accessibility plays a role in people's health outcomes. Spoiler alert: it probably does.
But fear not, because we've got a trick up our sleeves – telemedicine from the Virtual Doctors. We're talking about using technology to bring healthcare to those who need it most, even in the most remote areas.

The Problem:
Zambia and Malawi have 1 doctor per 12,000 people
For context, countries like the UK and USA have 1 doctor per 360 people. Therefore if someone living in a remote clinic in Zambia or Malawi has an illness or an accident, it is hard for them to get healthcare advice as the majority of doctors live in the cities.
Rural healthcare staff and technology can help provide a solution for this but not everywhere has internet access...
The Solution:

The Virtual Doctors use a bespoke mobile app to connect isolated health centres in rural Zambia and Malawi with volunteer doctors, based in Zambia, Malawi and the UK.
Our expedition will
- Bring new clinics online to help patients get answers from local clinicians without leaving their villages
- Supply innovative solar lanterns and chargers to clinics to ensure ongoing connectivity during power outages
- Capacity build, looking at how simple strategies can improve outcomes following major trauma and accident
- Focus on health promotion and collaboration looking at the prevalence and management of snake bites
- Capture our project in order to raise awareness and continue fundraising
