This mission trip is something that made my heart so happy, yet broke my heart as well. To know that children can't go to school, can't follow their dreams of being that firefighter, doctor, or president, because they don't have clean water is so STUPID to me. Yeah I said it! These children get sick from drinking contaminated water from rivers that other people and animals have bathed in. So many people dying from preventable diseases, all because of unsanitary water. The water that is in my toilet is cleaner than the water these people live on. I will never forget the time I saw an older woman, probably in her 80's, so skinny carrying a huge jug of water on top of her head. She didn't have any shoes on, and the road she was walking on was gravel and rocks. She probably traveled close to 2 miles if not more to get that water, and it wasn't even clean. I'll never forget her face, and most importantly I'll never forget that horrible feeling of realizing I couldn't even carry that container of water with my hands, much less the way she was doing it without shoes and her age. It made me realize how important water is, and without it there really is no life. John 4:14 talks about the Living Water of Christ. And even though it's a sad situation, the real comparison to life without Jesus is life without water. I saw first hand what it looks like. Thank God for trips like these, where we get to bring them both physical and spiritual water-so they'll never have to be thirsty.
I'll never forget how happy that community was to receive water, something I take for granted everyday!
I am raising money to go back to Haiti in May of 2017. I will be joining Living Water again for a week, to build a water well and teach hygiene to a community in this beautiful country. I personally love this organization because the effects of the money used to go on the mission trip don't just end when I leave. Living Water employs people in the country to lead groups like ours when we go down, and to also make sure the wells are functioning properly after they're installed. The purpose of this organization is to build up the countries it serves.
To my potential donators, from the bottom of my heart thank you so much for reading into a little bit of what I'm passionate about. Your money sows into God's work of bringing water to people that don't have it. It's seriously such a huge deal!
