Hello family, friends, brothers in arms and anyone reading this post. My name is Mike, I am a 15 year US ARMY service veteran currently serving overseas. After serving 15 years in the U.S. Army I took a contracting job with a private company that owns a Department of Defense contract maintaining U.S. Army helicopters. Last year my family and I; my wife, two sons (14 and 8) and daughter (6) decided to take our chances and move down to Honduras for a new job opportunity as an US Army contractor fixing US ARMY helicopters.
We sold everything we worked hard for and built in the United States to move down here with means to go back home to the United States in three to five years. While working this US ARMY Aviation Department of Defenses contract in Honduras, Central America - unfortunately, after my first year my contract was not renewed. A month later and with no finances to go back and build our life back in the United States; back home, I got injured while overseas, I broke my left ankle on 09 September 2023. With little to no income, my family and I feel stranded here. My children are soon going to be kicked out of school due to owed and piling school tuition, and as a family we are scared because we are soon facing evection if we don't bring rent up-to-date. With no health insurance or VA support here in Honduras medical bills and utility bills are piling up.
Long story short, unemployed with no insurance and little to no income a family composed of a teenager - two toddlers, my wife and I...are facing homelessness in a foreign country.
Life gives you pauses to humility, yet life does not pause bills. Scared and humbled...and with the help of those in this good world we, my family, and I will surpass this hurdle. There is light beyond this dark tunnel, I have three job opportunities here in Honduras to build finances back up and get back on our feet. However, both The United States Agency of International Development and the U.S.Embassy Honduras (the two entities) I applied to for work are telling me it can take up to three months before I can get the clearance to work those positions. We are scared because with no true income for three more months we will not make it. My kids are getting kicked out of school by the end of this month and as a family out of where we live by the end of this month too.
Anything helps in this time of uncertainty, anything. Whatever we are raise will go to education, roof and medical bills to make it through. I know the good people that made all the way through this story will understand that it is a scary situation for a family that served post 9/11 wars both in the middle east three different rotations and our US military for over 15 years.
Once again, anything helps.THANKS!
