For the past 10 years, I have been living with IgA Nephropathy, a chronic kidney disease that has gradually changed my life. Over the last 2 years, my condition has progressed to Stage 5 End Stage Renal Failure, and I am now facing the biggest medical journey of my life — a living donor kidney transplant.
As a single father to two young children, this transplant represents more than just a medical procedure. It is an opportunity for more time, more memories, and a chance to be healthy enough to continue being there for my family and avoid needing dialysis 3 days a week with a 600km round trip each time.
I have been incredibly fortunate that my stepfather has selflessly offered to become my living kidney donor. His generosity is truly life changing, and I cannot put into words how grateful I am for this chance.
While the transplant surgery itself is financially covered, the recovery process will place significant financial strain on me. I will need to temporarily relocate from Central Queensland to Brisbane for approximately 8–10 weeks during recovery. The funds raised will help cover accommodation, daily transport to and from hospital appointments, medications, and eventually flights so my two children can visit me once I am well enough after surgery. If there are any further donations left or should the transplant not proceed funds will be donated to Kidney Health Australia so others can be helped.
This journey has been overwhelming at times, but we are hopeful. Any support — whether through donating or simply sharing this page — would mean the world to me, my amazing kids and family and help ease some of the financial pressure during this critical time.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for being part of this journey with us.
