Impacting Healthcare in Ghana, West Africa

Tax deductible
Impacting healthcare in Ghana means living a life of purpose and making my dreams a reality.

Mensah Global Health Initiative was established in 2019 in memory of my late mother Vida Darko Mensah and is a subsidiary of the Vida Darko Mensah Foundation inc a 501(c)3 organization. The purpose of this organization is to provide free healthcare for all, medication, equipment, and improving medical literacy through medical education to underserved communities in Ghana W. Africa such as, Anomabo. We believe through local partnerships and longitudinal relationships with a community we can improve the health outcomes as well as empower the communities we serve.

This organization engages local healthcare providers and volunteers in underserved regions of Ghana to work alongside medical professionals from overseas in identifying the needs of the community and coming up with collaborative solutions; with the common goal of providing outstanding healthcare to all regardless of social or economic status.

Why Anomabo, Ghana?
That is where I fell in love with providing free medical care for vulnerable communities in Ghana and realized serving others gave me joy.
As a way of commemorating my 50th birthday in 2019, I went on a medical outreach with the Ghana Medical Relief organization to Anomabo, a fishing community near Cape Coast. The experience was by far the best I have had as a Physician. The privilege of providing free care for my fellow Ghanaians, speak in my native tongue, and the joy of seeing the admiration and gratitude in the eyes of the patients I saw was priceless. I felt like I was doing something impactful and in that moment I decided that I wanted to continue to nurture my relationship with the Anomabo community and to continue engaging in this life-changing experience. This is how the Mensah Global Health Initiative was born.

During the 2022 inaugural medical outreach, our health initiative provided free medicine, medical equipment, and PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) to the Anomabo clinic. We also screened and treated patients with diabetes, hypertension, malaria and other infectious diseases. We provided daily educational series on the treatment and prevention of diseases such as malaria and diabetes. We also provided the clinic with medical equipment.

Additionally, we provided accommodation, transportation, and food for all the volunteers whose selfless work and dedication made this initiative possible.

Summary of our accomplishments with the Anomabo Initiative to date:
  • 2022 with a team of 3 providers we provided medical care for 300 people
  • 2023 with a team of 50 we provided medical, eye care and mental health services for 2300 people
  • 2024 with a team 70+ we aim to provide free medical, eye, dental, gynecology and mental health services for 4000 people in Anomabo and the surrounding communities. We provide health related talks to the local high school in addition to the daily health literacy series provided at the clinic.

2024 Fundraising Overview
We are actively fundraising for our Anomabo Initiative, which will take place March 18-22 2024. We need to raise $30,000 for Anomabo. Our initiative in Anomabo has been very successful over the past few years and we want to continue to make a difference in the lives of the people we have be serving by continuing to provide healthcare that most would otherwise not have access to. Furthermore it has led to our decision to expand to two other vulnerable communities in Ghana such as Akim Oda hospital( revamping the Maternity ward) and Women and Children Center in Greater Accra slated for October 2024. At both of these locations we will be replicating the free healthcare structure we have developed in Anomabo.

Your support makes all these initiatives a possibility and your donations are tax deductible.

2024 budget and raise amount is $75,000 for all of our Initiatives.
  • Anomabo $30,000 (March 2024)
  • Akim Oda Hospital $30,000(October 2024)
  • Women and Children Center in Greater Accra $15,000(October 2024)
With your help we hope to achieve this milestone.
I appreciate your support in making this vision a reality.
