Living a better life with Alzheimer's
Hi, my name is William Yeates, and in July 2019 - at the age of 59 - I was diagnosed with Younger Onset Alzheimer's Disease. As devastating as this diagnosis was for my family and me, I have been trying over the past three years to lead a better life as this disease progresses.
An essential part of my approach has been my decision to start competing in Master's Swimming and Surf Lifesaving at local, state, national, and international levels. It is my hope that by sharing my experiences at international conferences on Dementia, I will be able to inspire others who are also living with Dementia that it is still possible to lead a life with purpose and meaning.
Over the next year, I will be competing in the Pan Pacific Games on the Gold Coast in November 2022, and the 2023 World Master Games in South Korea in May. I will also be travelling to Taipei in December 2022 as a guest speaker at the Alzheimer's Disease International Asia Pacific Conference on Dementia. I am looking for funds to help me with the costs involved in attending each of these events.
To illustrate my journey, I have created my own website - www.awakeningyourpositivity.com - where you can follow my progress.
