Hey, I’m Livi. I’m 17 and I’ve pretty much grown up in Byron Bay surfing my whole life. This year I was diagnosed with an extremely rare and aggressive brain cancer. After surgery and heaps of treatment, my balance is cooked and my brain doesn’t work the way it used to. I can’t surf at the moment, which honestly sucks, but getting back in the water is one of the things keeping me going. My cancer is so rare that there isn’t currently a treatment available for me back home in Australia. My family and I have had to come all the way to North Carolina in the US so I can take part in an experimental CAR-T cell trial. I’m believed to be the first patient with my specific type of brain tumour to receive this treatment. There are no guarantees, but it gives me a chance and I want to take it. Recently things got pretty serious after treatment. I had multiple seizures and ended up in intensive care on life support. Because we’re Australian and having treatment in the US, a huge amount of the medical costs have to be covered by my family. The ICU and life-support costs alone are enormous, on top of the treatment, hospital stays and everything else that comes with being here. The money raised will help with medical and hospital bills, flights between Australia and the US, accommodation near the hospital and the everyday costs of having our family living overseas while I’m being treated. I still want to be able to get home to Byron whenever my treatment allows because being away from home, my mates and the ocean is pretty tough. We honestly appreciate anyone who donates or even just shares this. Anything left over once my treatment and related costs are covered will be donated towards brain cancer research to hopefully help other kids going through this in the future. Hopefully I’ll see you back out in the water soon ❤️
