Liver Transplant for Chante Marie

Donation protected
Please read and help share my daughter’s story.

Chante entered this world weighing 5 lbs and with liver complications. It was quite obvious that she was smaller than most kids her age but we always figured it was a genetic trait inherited from her great grandmother.

At the age of 12, in 2012, it was discovered that Chante had what is known as Turner’s Syndrome which explains her size and stature. At that time she was also diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. Needless to say, it was one tough year for us. Around 2014 we learned that she had several tumors all over her liver that would be closely monitored with CT/MRI scans and blood work.

In 2016 she suffered from hyperlipidemia, which caused several uncomfortable cholesterol deposits on her hands, arms, and legs. Going to school became a daily battle as a young adult in high school but she continued to smile her way through it. In 2018, the year Chante graduated, we were told that the tumors on her liver appeared to be cancerous. As a parent this was the hardest day of my life and I was not looking forward to sharing this news with her, family, and friends.

Chante had several rounds of radiation to burn the cancer which was successful. Shortly after she was placed on the liver transplant waiting list. Due to her size, it was very important that she receive care from a facility that transplants young adults so we chose University Hospital in San Antonio, Texas. In order for Chante to have a better quality of life, we need everyone’s help to share her story in hopes of reaching someone, somewhere, who would willing to donate a portion of their liver. University has the 2nd largest Living Donor Liver program in the country. A living person can safely donate 40-70% of their liver because it has the amazing ability to regenerate.

As we all know, expenses for any transplant can be a financial strain not to mention the cost for traveling back and forth from DFW to San Antonio so we are also starting a GoFundMe account for Chante. https://gofund.me/52081f0e
