Liver Transplant & Medical Expenses for Jim Bovard
Donation protected
My name is Derek Bovard and I am on a mission to raise money for my dad's medical expenses that he will incur in the upcoming months.
On January 13th my dad, Jim Bovard went into the hospital after being sick for a week. He was critically dehydrated and his kidneys and liver were shutting down. After a multitude of testing it was discovered that he had contracted Hepatitis A and was in acute liver failure. He was transferred to Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans where he spent the next week. The doctor's pretty much told him he was the "sickest man in the Southeast" and needed a liver transplant ASAP.
On January 25th my dad received that liver transplant and has been recovering well since and is expected to make a full recovery. However, this entire process is far from being over. As of Saturday, he will remain in the hospital for two more weeks. At the end of those two weeks he and my stepmother Luanne will be living in an apartment in New Orleans for the next twelve weeks after being released from the hospital since they are not local to the area. He will need to go to the hospital for daily checkups and appointments so doctors can evaluate his body and liver.
Since the liver transplant, my dad is on several anti-rejection liver medications so his body will not reject his new liver. These medications are very expensive and are something he will have to remain on his entire life. This entire process has and will continue to hurt them financially.
I am reaching out to all friends and family of mine, friends of Dad and Luanne and anyone out there that is willing to lend a hand. Any donation would be greatly, GREATLY appreciated.
