LIVEr STRONG - journey to get David a new liver
Donation protected
Hi everyone.
I want to start off by sharing our Caring Bridge site for David. This will help you follow our journey and learn more about his condition and what he has been through.
Visit David's Site: https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/davidtousignant2 Site Name: davidtousignant2
David has been a part of our community involved in local and state politics, human rights movements, the comedy scene, an integral part of the Marquette Fireworks Community and really just anywhere a helping hand is needed. It is his turn now and he needs our help!
In 2017, David was diagnosed with a disease called Cryptogenic Liver Syndrome. It is rare, and there is no cause. Since that time, he has been taking medications to retain as much of his own liver function as possible.
Since March of this year, David has taken a turn for the worse and the relentless progression this disease is trying to destroy what little function he has left. David’s only chance he has at beating this, is a liver transplant. He was admitted to UPHS-Marquette where they consulted University of Michigan, Henry Ford and Froedtert Medical College of Wisconsin where he still is receiving care today. David is expected to remain down in Milwaukee until one of two things happens 1) his insurance approves a liver transplant and we find a match willing to donate a portion of their liver (or a cadaver donor becomes available) -OR- 2) they find a way to stabilize him enough for him to come home until they are able to find a liver.
He will be out of work for at least a year while healing from a transplant. David and one caregiver will be required to live in Milwaukee for 6 weeks minimally following his transplant. David’s job has granted him a medical leave however that comes without pay along with the copays, deductibles, and monthly costs of insurance. Travel expenses, copays, hotels, and missed work are all starting to build up and we haven’t even started on our true journey to healing David.
This is an extremely tough situation and without your support, we won’t make it. Thank you for reading this far, and thank you all in advanced for the thoughts, prayers, good vibes, warm meals, and tight hugs ❤️
PS - if you’re A+ blood type and interested in possibly being a living donor, please reach out to Courtney, David, or Arlene! Thank you!!
