Liver 4 Life

Tom Whelan is the kind of guy who would give you the shirt off his back. He’s a guy who made Christmas happen for a single mom and her five kids when she had no money or support. He dedicated his life to serving as an NCPD officer and a volunteer firefighter with Atlantic Steamer. He is a life long resident of Oyster Bay with many ties to the community. He took care of his parents around the clock in the final years of their lives.  He is a man who lives for his family.

In 2017, after 2 years of misdiagnosis and being incredibly sick, our father got a shocking diagnosis of NON alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver. For almost 2 years his health has steadily declined, and he is very very sick.

Today we received a miracle. Our father was called from the transplant list, and there is a liver for him! Our parents are on a plane as we speak, headed to Miami so he can receive the gift of a second chance at life, from a donor.  We sent them off with a carry on suitcase and no plans in place for when they arrive, just knowing we needed to take this leap of faith so he can have this surgery.

Our father isn’t a guy who would ask for help, but we need your help. Our parents will be displaced in the Miami area for at least 3 months while he recovers. We are trying to alleviate some of the financial stress while they are there, so that he can focus on healing and our mother can focus on taking care of him.
