Live Fast Take Chances for David Keeble

Donation protected
Dave Keeble had never had a day’s illness in his life when he started having problems running after the kids he coached at soccer and basketball.

A true family man who worked hard and who loved his life with his wife Sharon and three young daughters, he brushed off what was happening as being tired.

But as the months went by and his symptoms got worse, he was eventually diagnosed with ALS – also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease and Motor Neuron Disease – in 2017.

It’s a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects the nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord that make muscles move.

Over a short period of time, they die, so the muscles become useless leaving the person unable to walk, move their hands or arms, feed themselves and eventually talk and breathe.

The average person lives for three to five years after diagnosis, so the odds are pretty awful. There is no effective treatment and as of today, no cure.

Now they have reached the stage where they need help and while Dave would never ask, we have decided to set-up this appeal.

They have survived on Sharon’s earnings while Dave can’t work but with all the medical expenses, they truly need our support.

With the estimated medical costs of more than $200,000 a year to care for an ALS patient, we need to raise money so that the burden of the astronomical costs can be eased.

Dave is now full time in a wheelchair and his wife Sharon is his main carer. But while she does this, she also works full time to make ends meet, so the pressure is enormous.

They need outside help to care for his needs. They need help to convert the bathroom into a safe space where Sharon can bathe Dave without the worry of another fall.

Also, we would like to say that despite this awful diagnosis, Dave has maintained his infectious love for life and tries to remain positive and continue to make memories with his family.

We have adopted his life motto – ‘Live Fast Take Chances’ – to inspire others to live their lives to the fullest with no regrets because you just never know when something like ALS can stop you in your tracks.

Thank you for any donation – no matter how small – they will be used for medical bills and also to help make Dave’s quality of life better. It will also be used to raise awareness of ALS and to campaign for the (currently) experimental drugs so many desperately need to slow down their progression!
