Live at the Hive is an inclusive folk open mic night held at the Moseley Hive in South Birmingham.

It takes place on the last Thursday of every month and provides a welcoming space for people to connect with their community, make new friends, and support local artists.

We’re lucky to have a wealth of talent coming through—from profoundly talented amateur musicians to emerging artists trying out new material, and even a few brave debuts from people taking the huge step of performing in public for the first time!

When we first started the night, our ambition was to grow it into a local folk club, with professional acts headlining and a handful of floor spots. However, the demand to play has been so high—and the quality of the night so excellent—that we decided to keep it as an open mic night.

As part of our inclusive policy we are dedicated to doing everything we can to keep the night free to attend. However, we do have some costs attached most importantly room hire.

We take donations on a monthly basis at the night, but these rarely cover the actual cost of the room hire, so we are starting a GoFundMe to try and make the night more sustainable.

The money we pay towards room hire goes straight back into the Moseley Community Development Trust who do fantastic work supporting the local community and vulnerable groups in the area.

Any money we make beyond room hire costs go into our other outgoings including technical equipment, marketing resources and a small pot to develop future events.

If we reach our goal, this will cover a year of live at the hive events - resulting in 12 Open Mic Nights, opportunities for at least 100 artists to play and free access to live music for about 500 audiences!
