Live Art Benalla 2024-25 Program Support

Live Art Benalla (LAB) is a performance platform founded by Tegan Nash in 2022 to present multidisciplinary events in Benalla and surrounding areas. We work with local artists, organisations and the community to program events and create artistic experiences and opportunities for artists and audiences in our region. These may include performances, festivals, workshops, professional development and talks, in a range of disciplines that are focused on the creation and presentation of performance.

Live Art Benalla's first year has been an incredible success working with local artists, organisations and the community to create special artistic experiences for all ages, in a range of disciplines and public spaces.

In April 2022 Live Art Benalla launched its platform with a special performance event featuring Queensland-based, multidisciplinary artist Zoe Porter called SURFACE. Since this launch, Live Art Benalla has worked with local organisations, communities and artists in the North East region, to conceive and deliver events for the community, from dance and live music to workshops for young people. Pleasingly LAB to date has engaged and paid 104 artists and arts workers predominately from North East Victoria, recorded 514 active participants in events/workshops and welcomed 1972 attendees. We have an exciting program developed for 2024/25, however, we need financial support to bring these programs, performances and events to Benalla.

Since we started, all of our events have been free, not-for-profit and funded by the local council and via in-kind support from organisations. To push our programming further and bring exciting work to the community, we need to expand our financial support and are seeking funders and stakeholders to join the team. We need your support to ensure our events stay accessible, community focused and foster opportunities for local practicing artists to showcase their work.

Across our 2024-25 program we hope to revisit our Mural Music event as an annual community staple event, bring some contemporary live music to interesting spaces, host industry workshops, initiate a local multidisciplinary commission, offer artist-sharing platforms and events, highlight our local history and engage our local First Nations community.
