Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) is a genetic disorder that causes some babies to born with either holes in their hearts that do not close after birth or non-functioning heart valves.
It affects 1 in 100 babies around the world and can be treated with an invasive or non-invasive heart operation at birth, depending on the type of heart defect.
In poor, underdeveloped countries access to treatment is next to impossible as there is a severe lack in skilled health professionals, supplies and equipment for the sugeries and facilities for the procedures to be carried out in.
Alongside Muntada Aid, a small group of us have decided to try and raise money for this deserving cause. The Little Hearts Project is one of the largest heart treatment projects of its kind in the world, and they specialise in:
1- Sending global teams of medical volunteers to perform the life-saving surgeries
2- Training local health professionals to prepare them for future operations
3- Building and equipping cardiac centres with much-needed equipment and medication.
