Hello, My name is Jackie, and I am raising money for my little dog, Chisme. Chisme is a medical mystery that no vet can solve (kind of like Scooby Doo, but it sucks and is crazy expensive).

His vet bills and medications have amounted to $18,000 as of December 30th, and now he needs an MRI. Thanks to many generous donors, about $6,000 has been raised since August. My credit score thanks you all.

The Story:

In June, Chisme suddenly lost the majority of his vision. When it became apparent that he was rapidly going blind, I took him to Veterinary Emergency Group in Santa Monica (I highly recommend, and the doctor was hot). After running some tests ruling out some common causes of blindness, they referred me to a dog ophthalmologist, which I did not know existed, but this is L.A., so there's six of them. I ended up taking him to Metropolitan Animal Specialty Hospital the same day. He has been going to MASH since, where saw an ophthalmologist for about a month. After weeks of tests, appointments, and medications he did not regain his eyesight and no diagnosis was able to be reached. Chisme then graduated to internal medicine. Both his opthemologist and internal med doctor are hot too .

Around the middle of July, Chisme started vomiting all of his meals. This lasted 3 days until I was able to get him an appointment at MASH with both of his specialty doctors. He had a lot of stuff going on with his guts. Mostly his liver, gallbladder, and pancreas… still with no clear cause. We went home with even more medicines and instructions for a low-fat diet.

Over the next week, Chisme began losing interest in food and became lethargic. After he didn't eat anything for a full day, I made the soonest available internal med appointment. Chisme was experiencing severe pancreatitis and hsd to be hospitalized for two days. While in the hospital, he underwent a lot more testing, but unfortunately there is jsut no clear cause for any of his health issues. Diagnosis: Special Little Guy Syndrome.

This brings us to December. Good news is Chisme's liver levels have continued to improve! Bad news is he is having siezures now. He is starting siezure medication and will need an MRI to determine the cause of the seizures. Luckily the MRI is not an emergency, so there's plenty of time to fundraise :)

Fun facts!
  • Both Chisme and I have gotten detached retinas this year!
  • Chisme does have some sight! He can see objects in the distance in good lighting, allowing him to navigate well enough, but he cannot see anything up close.
