Little Stray Kitty's Broken Leg
Donation protected
This kitten was found last night (14 June) and I've taken him to the emergency vet. While he is healthy (low fever, no FIV, no leukemia), his leg is too badly damaged for a splint or a cast and requires surgery which likely includes pins and screws and a possible replacement of the femur head. This surgery was quoted at $4000 from the nearest specialist veterinary hospital capable of performing the necessary surgery. The emergency vet services alone were $500+, which I am willing to pay personally, but $4000 is a little steep. I am looking into other specialists to get a better quote.
As you can see from the video, he's a pretty normal and happy kitty. While putting him down or amputating the leg might be cheaper, I'd like to give this little guy the best quality of life for his 15+ years on this earth. Please help out and share. I'm sure he appreciates it. I know I do.
Thank you,
Colin Everett
EDIT: I just got a quote from Dr. Wilson's Hospital and they gave me a price of ~1.3K-2.2K USD. Much better price. I'm still going to guess it's going to be at the high end since its both a proximal and distal fracture and may require a femoral head replacement depending on how close the break is to the head.
