"Little Squish's" Medical Bills

Hello, My name is Rebecca, and I am fundraising for "Little Squish". We have all come to know and love Squish and the story of her dramatic adventure at the Beaver Marsh in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Her Mom, Chelsea Berkowitz, has been faced with unexpected medical bills for Squish's surgery and recovery, and I thought we could help relieve that burden for her and her family.

For those who don't know, Chelsea was traveling from Texas to Massachusetts to attend her first year of Veterinary School. During her road trip, they stopped off to take a break from the car and Squish broke free from her harness and fell into the canal. After looking for several hours and unable to locate her, and faced with a deadline for arriving in Massachusetts, Chelsea had to make the terrible decision to leave without Squish.

Countless amazing people came together to search for Squish, and after 20 long days and nights, a remarkable woman located her and drove halfway to reunite her with Chelsea. She was dehydrated and running a fever after so long without food and clean water. The vet discovered what seemed to be two infected bite wounds that had formed abscesses, so they performed surgery and kept Squish on fluids and antibiotics for a few nights in the hospital. The surgery was very successful, and she now has two wound drains and is on antibiotics and pain meds to keep her comfortable. She is expected to make a full recovery!

Chelsea is beyond grateful to every single person, most of whom were complete strangers, who worked to make signs, posted and shared information on Facebook, and helped look for her beloved Squish. She can't believe that she has Squish back and will do absolutely anything for her. However, the last thing Chelsea wanted to do was ask for more help after so many people have done so much, but I know this was not in the budget as a graduate student. If you could please help in any way to offset the expenses, she would be more than grateful. Thank you for reading!
