Oreja Was Hit by a Car and Left Suffering — Now We’re Fighting for Him
Senior Oreja was found badly injured after apparently being hit by a car and left on the street. He had no sensation in the back half of his body.
Although he had already been found the previous day, almost 24 hours passed before he finally received the emergency veterinary care he desperately needed. With no effective system in place to guarantee immediate help for injured animals, Oreja was left suffering with severe internal bleeding even in the hands of authorities, until finally brought to the shelter casually.
The moment he arrived at our shelter, we had to run. Within minutes, our team was rushing him to SOS Málaga, where the examination revealed severe injuries caused by the impact. Oreja was bleeding heavily into his abdomen and needed immediate emergency surgery. Part of his liver had been badly damaged in the accident and had to be removed. His spleen was injured too, but thankfully, the veterinary team managed to bring the bleeding under control.
Then came the news we had barely dared to hope for:
*Oreja’s spine was not broken.*
Yesterday, we did not know whether he would ever be able to walk again - usually sadly when an animal is not moving their back legs after an accident, it often means broken spine...
BUT, today Oreja has already taken his first steps. They may only be small steps, but they have given us so much hope.
Sadly, this is not the first time Oreja has been found far from home and in danger. According to his registration history, this senior boy has previously been reported "found" several times and in completely different places — even as far away as Tarifa. Means he has been left in danger multiple times, and sooner or later something was bound to happen. Oreja is registered in Álora, Málaga, but was found injured in El Rosario, Marbella. The contact details linked to his microchip are no longer up to date. His registered owner could not be reached, and nobody came looking for him. Once again, Oreja was left alone.
*But this time, he has us.*
Now we need your help to cover the cost of his emergency surgery, hospitalisation, medication, further examinations and recovery. The operation alone is estimated to cost around *€800*, and additional treatment may still be needed.
Once Oreja is strong enough, we will also need to find him the safe and loving home he deserves — a home where he will never be left alone and in danger again.
Please help us give Oreja more than emergency treatment. Help us give him a completely new life.
Yesterday, we feared he might never walk again. Today, he took his first steps.
Let’s make sure they are the first steps towards the future he has always deserved.
