Little Scout’s Battle with FIP

Hi all, my name is Vivian and I’m starting a fundraiser for my friend’s little ball of light and love (pictured above). Scout is a barely 9-month-old energetic, beautiful tuxedo cat with an insatiable appetite and playful attitude. She and her brother Leo were born on Christmas Day 2021, & were carefully brought into this world and into the hearts of Heather Forgie and Jason Nguyen — the best parents one could wish for. Unfortunately this little kitty started to become partially blind in one eye not too long ago, and quickly developed a lethargy and wobbly legs over the last couple days.

Last night the pawrents received the worst news that they’ve been fearing… a fatal diagnosis of FIP (feline infectious peritonitis). Normally a kitten with this diagnosis would be put down, as there is previously no cure. The symptoms for the disease are insidious and difficult to rule out from other sources of inflammation.

When she first came home, Scout started with benign diarrhea every once in a while, and is now blind and displaying neurological symptoms. The virus has spread to her eyes and likely brain.

Please consider donating to this cause, as the treatment (remdesivir) is costly and is from the kitty Black Market. It’s an antiviral first developed to combat Covid-19 in humans, but now will be used to help Scout with 80% chance of survival!

UPDATE*: Let’s spread awareness that such a therapy exists, so fewer kitties are unnecessarily put down

UPDATE: **84 days of injections is confirmed to be approximately $3600 CAD and each blood test and veterinarian visit will be costly for this young couple. The overall funds will be set at $5,000 for now and will update accordingly. Any extra $ will be donated to a charity of choice, so no dollar will be wasted.
