Hello, my name is Oliver Ulloa Casas. At 7 years of age, a few months before my 8th birthday, I was diagnosed with a brain tumor. So many visits to the pediatrician with many headaches, treated for viral infections and sent home, and many trips to the emergency room with a lot of pain. Finally, after three visits to the emergency room on the same day, they finally discovered the tumor. The emergency doctor was not sure what could be the cause not even with a CT scan you could see the depth that was in my brain.
I was then transferred to Rady’s Children's hospital in San Diego. At the hospital, they gave me an MRI where they could finally confirm that it was a cancerous tumor. I was diagnosed with Sonic Hedgehog Medulloblastoma. I underwent emergency surgery to be able to remove a large part of the tumor. I was hospitalized for several weeks in the pediatric intensive care. In oncology, I received chemotherapy and radiation for 9 months. I was finally cancer-free. Unfortunately 6 months later my tumor returned and this time more aggressive.
I am currently at St Jude hospital in Memphis, Tennessee receiving treatment, my parents thought they could go home soon but after 3 more months of treatment, they were told that it did not work. My tumors have metastasized. I was put on another treatment and now neither of my parents can return home anytime soon.
Hola mi nombre oliver ulloa casas, a los 7 años de edad casi faltando unos mese para cumplir mis 8 años de edad fui diagnosticado con un tumor cerebral. Un dia mis padres despues de tantas visitas al pediatra y me trataran mis dolores de cabeza como una infección viral, me llevaron a sala de emergencia con mucho dolor, despues de tres visitas corridas el mismo dia, me descubrienron el tumor, el doctor de emergencia no estaba seguro que podia ser pues con un ct scan no se podia ver a profundidad que tenia en mi cerebro. Entonces fui trasladado a hospital en san diego rady children's. En el hospital me hicieron un mri donde por fin pudieron estar seguros de que se trataba de un tumor canceroso y fui diagnosticado con medullosblatoma del tipo sonic hedgehod y fui operado de emergencia para poder retirar gran parte del tumor. Estuve hospitalizado varias semanas primero en intensivo pediatrico y luego en oncología, recibi quimioterapias y radiaciones por 9 meses, estuve libre de cancer 6 meses y en estos momentos mi tumor a regresado más agresivo. Actualmente me encuentro en el hospital St Jude en Memphis Tennessee recibiendo tratamiento, mis padres pensaban que podían regresar a casa pronto pero el tratamiento despues de 3 meses no resultó, mis tumor se hizo metástasis y ahora me encuentro en otro tratamiento por lo que tampoco mis padres pueden regresar se a casa pronto.
