hi, my name is maddie and first of all i wanna thank you for taking time and reading this story - i appreciate it a lot.
honestly, i don't know where to start and how to explain as short as possible but as long as anyone need so let's start couple weeks ago.
my boyfriend and i living in méxico for about 2,5 years now and we absolutely love animals. our hearts are beating for cats so we care for 5 cats (a mommy and her four babys) at our home and a street cat who used to live with us but decided that she likes the street more. we're still feeding her and spend time with cuddling her in her space. as much as we care for animals and their wellbeing, as much we care for humanity and a world where we help each other when in need. to me (us) this is natural. so when a friend asked us for shelter because he couldn't pay his rent anymore, we didn't hesitate a second and welcomed him (with aaaaaall his stuff and his dog) with open arms in our home. he lived nearly 7 weeks with us, for free. that is fine, like i said, for me there is no question helping people who need help.
unfortunately the situation changed over the last week dramatically and something happened. on friday evening (16th of may) our friend brought another dog (a street dog) to our place. she was obviously injured and we guess she had a fight with another street dog or hurt her tail in any other way. he didn't ask if that's fine for us, he just brought her. but even in that moment we felt like we need to do something with this little dog lady. she would be around a year, not sterilized and it seems like she was born on the streets. we disinfected the wound, gave her some food and let her stay inside to calm down and relax a little. but she'll need a surgery to take proper care of the wound. half of her tail was bitten of but the bone is left. we all knew that it's more than just disinfecting and putting her back on the streets.
our "friend" left yesterday in a huge argument and he left the little dog lady at our place with the words: "i did what i can - now it's your responsibility because you wouldn't kick her out the morning after. i would have done that."
right now i'm still in shock how cruel people can be. for us it's not possible to kick her out, she'll not survive half a day outside in the streets with her wound, not sterilized and weak from the last days. it is also not possible to keep her but we will take the responsibility and care for her until we found another solution or someone who'll adopt her or take her into foster care. right know we're not able to cover the costs for the surgery and the aftercare. we do anything we can but we need your help to cover the costs of the surgery and the aftercare. an animal welfare centre would do the surgery for very low cost (we already asked them if they can help us and normally they wouldn't treat dogs but they'll do it in this case). but we still need pain killers, antibiotics and check ups after. all money we raise will be used 100% for her treatment, food she'll need as long as she stays with us and maybe a leash to walk her properly. i'll share every bill for every cent we spend and if there is some money left we're gonna give it to her forever-family or donate it to the animal welfare center. (i will transfer the money to them and share the bill after every transaction.) we even tried to bring her to a shelter in the city we live in but there is so many dogs and so many heavily injured dogs that she's actually not "injured enough" - what is a dilemma for us.
i wouldn't ask for help if there were any other solution but she needs this surgery very urgent. living in a tropical area makes it difficult and the possibility for an infection rises everyday without surgery.
please text me if you have any further questions or doubts. also let me know if you know anyone who can help us in any way. we're thankful for ideas and tipps. and if you wanna share the campaign, feel free to do so.
thank you from the bottom of our heart!
we appreciate every cent and every good wish.
warm hugs,
maddie, simon and little dog lady.
p.s.: she doesn't even has a name yet but we were thinking about esmeralda feel free to share your ideas with us.
