Little Isla's Journey

In 2019, little Isla from Tassie was diagnosed with epilepsy.  A year was spent trying many different anti-seizure medications as Isla's seizures were uncontrollable.  After many MRI's, EEG's, a pet scan and lumbar puncture, Isla was diagnosed with Rasmussens Encephalitis in April 2020 at 4 and a half years old.   This disease is inflammation on the brain that progressively eats away at the brain cells on one hemisphere of the brain.  There is no cure for this disease.  It is SO rare that the only definitive treatment is a hemispherectomy (which is a disconnection of the right hand side of her brain).   This surgery comes with irreversible consequences.   In September 2020, Isla, her beautiful mum & dad and her baby sister Tilly will be heading to the Royal Children's Hospital to undergo this surgery.   Isla will be left with a vision impairment and she will be partially paralysed down the left side of her body.   Karissa & Jimmy will then be unable to work for quite some time due to the huge changes to their wonderful, strong daughter Isla plus looking after their gorgeous 1 year old Tilly.   Please join me in helping this beautiful family through such a difficult, unknown time!  Isla is the strongest little lady and we have no doubt she will adapt to these changes as best she can Thank you all!
