Little Hugo’s recovery journey: a healthy heart ❤️
Donation protected
Hello, I'm Oliver, Hugo's Father, A Med student trying to put his son through heart surgery with no current income while full time in school. This is his story:
At birth, our precious Hugo faced Myconium Aspiration Syndrome (MAS), a condition blocking his airways, leading to hypoxia. In the NICU, he was diagnosed with Atrial Septal Defect (ASD), a heart condition demanding attention to avoid complications.
The Situation:
Now, at three years old, regular checkups reveal the growing defect impacting Hugo's heart efficiency. Recent advice from the cardiologist emphasizes the importance of surgery to prevent irreversible lung damage from pulmonary hypertension. Hugo expresses fatigue and displays cyanosis at rest, deeply distressing signs for any parent.
As a Canadian and Chinese citizen, Hugo resides with me in China while I complete my medical education for a few additional years. Despite being covered by Canadian healthcare, we opted for surgery in China due to quicker access, avoiding the extended process in Canada, as well to give him stability of avoiding flying back and forth several times. With no current income, the financial burden of the surgery weighs heavily. Your support can make a significant difference.
The Plan:
The estimated cost of surgery is $16,000 CAD, with $5,500 still needed to make this a reality. This covers the surgery alone, excluding preliminary, follow-up, and transportation costs. If we reach the goal promptly, I aim to schedule his inpatient stay post-Chinese New Year, avoiding the challenges of surgery and recovery in high summer temperatures.
Taking time off from school, I commit to being there every step of the way for Hugo, embracing the concept of prehabilitation to strengthen his immunity before surgery and prepare his little heart for the arduous journey towards recovery.
The Journey:
Throughout this challenging journey, I'll keep family, friends, and generous contributors updated on Hugo's progress, sharing the milestones towards a resilient heart surrounded by a network of unwavering support.
Final Words:
Every day, I'm grateful for Hugo's overall health, notwithstanding the challenges his condition brings. While our situation is difficult, I'm mindful that others face even greater hardships. Your support is invaluable, and as I navigate my medical studies, my aim is to give back more than I receive. Thank you for considering and supporting Super Hugo's journey.
