Little gymkhana horse with the biggest heart
Donation protected
This is by far the hardest thing I’ve ever had to put into words. My heart horse, the love of my life, has become extremely ill and is in critical condition at Loomis Basin Equine Medical Center in Loomis, California. We are still awaiting blood tests to be sure of what she has, but they are treating her for a virus at this time. She went down sometime early Thursday morning, and has been down ever since. She has lost control of her body, throat, tongue, mouth, bowels, bladder, and is not trying to stand at this time. She is heavily sedated to prevent any thrashing or banging of her head on the ground.
Nevaeh was born on my mothers property in 2005. My mom bred Nevaeh's mother Memphis for my birthday gift, and we never imagined how perfect she would be. I started training her when she was 2, and I was 14. She was the first horse I ever trained on my own with guidance from other trainers. She quickly became a part of me. We were a team. She helped me win so many gymkhanas, I can’t even count. She even carried me to win my very first saddle! She loves chasing cows in the mountains, going on long trail rides, and will literally do anything else I ask of her.
Last year, October 2019, after winning Reserve Champion in Division 1 CSHA, I handed her lead to a very dear friend named Dustee. Dustee and her mom Shannon got to keep her on a lease for the year. This past week Navaeh and Dustee won their very first saddle together in the California State Horseman's Association - Divison 3 Gymkhana Championship! Four short days later is when Nevaeh became ill and here we are.
Shannon has done everything and more for this mare, and I could not appreciate her more for taking such good care of my girl. I am a new mother in the midst of all this, with my new two month old baby girl, and can’t help much financially. We are all devastated with everything and could use any possible help we could get. We are doing everything we can to save our favorite red mare, and unfortunately that comes with a hefty vet bill.
As much as it is painful to ask, please help if you possibly can. Nevaeh is a very special horse, not just to Dustee, Shannon and me, but to everyone of our friends and family. Shannon has already invested $4,000 with Loomis Basin without blinking an eye, but we are nowhere out of the woods yet and there is more financial strain to come as Nevaeh hopefully recovers. Thank you all kindly in advance!
Sincerely,
Alexis Woods, Shannon and Dustee Rahn
