I am Jenna and I teach 2-4 year olds at an inclusive, public preschool in Red Clay School District! In our school, we service children with identified disabilities/IEPs whom receive free special education services (FAPE) through our program, as well as children without disabilities.
One of the most beneficial things caregivers can do with their child at this age is read to them. When you read to/with your child, it strengthens the bond between the two of you, enhances language and literacy skills, supports cognitive development, and builds concentration and focus.
One of the main hurdles caregivers may encounter when seeking to read to their child more frequently, is lack of access. Low-income communities face barriers to accessing literacy for their children, and in part the children suffer.
My goal is to raise money to buy a little free library to put outside of my school. Little free library is a nonprofit organization with a mission to build community, inspire readers, and expand book access. Giving our students the opportunity to rent books from this library to bring home to explore and read could drastically effect their learning, development, and love for reading!
