In Memory of Poco: Saving Sick Little Doggies

Update: On a rainy Wednesday on 01/22/20, our love able and brave pomeranian and poodle mix, Poco, succumbed to Immune-Mediated Thrombocytopenia (ITP), a blood disorder where his body produced an over abundance of antibodies to kill an infection that wasn’t there and was literally destroying his healthy blood platelets in the process. Poco was dying from the inside out. Antibiotics, auto-immune system suppressors, a cancer treatment, and two blood transfusions couldn’t save him. He wanted to come home so badly, and so did we. It was a heart breaking scenario that played over and over again for 6 long arduous days. Poco and us weren’t alone though. By our side, along with the grace or God, we had exemplary veterinary medical professionals at Summit Veterinary Referral Service helping us each step of the way, and an overwhelming abundance of love and support from family, friends, and strangers who heard our call and came to Poco’s rescue. While in the hospital, we couldn’t help but notice the amount of love and concern other fur baby parents were going through. Our hearts ached not only for us but for them, so in memory of Poco, our brave little angel, who we miss so much, we would like to split all proceeds after the $2,000 and donate it to Summit Veterinary Referral Service and other 24-Hour emergency vet hospitals to help pay for necessary medical treatments parents of sick loved ones cannot afford. No sick fur child should ever be laid to rest because of financial reasons, and no fur child parent should have to experience the loss of their pet without knowing they did all they could you save them ❤️ We promise to run this campaign with the utmost of love, transparency, and integrity. Respectfully yours, Geoff Lagonoy, Jerome Kinzler, and Poco Original campaign message: Woof woof!  My name is Poco and I love to run like a gazelle, play like a little boy, jump like a bunny, and bark at strangers I do not know.  I am 6-years-old and ready to take on the world, see the sights, smell the smells, and taste the yummy and healthy that little dogs can enjoy.   On 01/15/20, I wasn't feeling well.  I didn't want to get out of bed, my pee was dark yellow and my stool was also dark.  My human parents took me to Crestwood Animal Hospital, where Dr. Norstrem and his assistant Hanna examined me and took a blood sample.  The next day, the vet called and told my parents to take me to Summit Veterinary Referral Center, a 24-hour emergency veterinary clinic, because something was wrong with my blood.

Being in the hospital is no fun, but I am glad Dr. Mi, Milo, and Boxford are helping me get better.  I have what's called Immune-Mediated Thrombocytopenia (ITP).  My body's defense system is working against me thinking it's helping me, but it isn't.  It's creating too many red blood cells and these cells are destroying my blood platelet count, which my body needs to prevent me from over bleeding.  I was given antibiotics, steroids, and am now on a new treatment that will hopefully get me better, but this treatment takes several days to work.  I would love to get better and do what I always love to do.  If you can help me, I promise to love you forever.
