Then on August 22nd Coraline had a craniotomy and a majority of the mass was removed and sent to pathology. It could not all be removed because of where it was located in her brain. She then was in the hospital recovering until August 28th when we were released to come home. Before her discharge we met with oncology about the pathology results. She was diagnosed with nongerminomatous germ cell tumor (NGGCT).
On August 4th we had an oncology appointment to discuss the treatment plan. On Wednesday September 12th Coraline will have a port put in and start chemotherapy right away that day. She will have 18 weeks of chemo fallowed by more scans to check the progress of her treatment. Also the scans will determine what type of radiation and how much she gets. We are taking everything one step at a time and just hoping for the best.
