Arheana Marie "YANA" Soria Centones is my two-year-old daughter and was born with a heart defect. Good day! I am her mother, Rhea Marie Soria.
Two days after her birth, doctors informed us she had 2 holes in her heart and needed immediate surgery. The defects were confirmed through a 2D Echocardiography. We did not have money for the surgery since doctors told us it would cost between PhP500,000 and PhP1,000,000. In US dollars, that is about $10,000.00 to $20,000.00 so we have had to delay the surgery.
After a year, we took Yana to Manila to see the doctors at Philippine Heart Center and who ran more tests on Yana and they confirmed the diagnosis of "Congenital Septal Defect and Atrioventricular Septal Defect.” The doctors told us the longer we \wait on the surgery, the more serious her health consequences become. With this condition, the heart “gets used to” the defects and surgery becomes more difficult and more dangerous.
Because of the heart defect, Yana gets sick very quickly and her nails and lips are getting darker over the time, an indication she is not getting enough blood to her body because of the holes. Because of our economic situation, the heart surgery is too expensive for us and Yana is not getting better.
As a mother I want my daughter to have a normal, healthy life and Yana needs your help. With the surgery, she will grow up a normal, healthy child, enjoying all the adventures in life she can have. Without the surgery, her condition will worsen and I am afraid she may not survive to have those adventures.
