Hi, my name is Cathy Franco and I am making this on behalf of my son Isreal Cruz most people know him by his nickname "Lito." He is a very funny, outgoing, caring, give you the shirt off his back kind of man. He liked to play videogames such as Fortnite and Call of Duty, he was a little brother and a big brother and always cared for his siblings, always made sure his family was straight. His laugh could make anyone smile on their worst of days. He had a rough childhood but always kept a positive attitude no matter what and stayed focused on what he wanted for himself.
On August 26th of 2020 he was tragically shot three times in his sleep while at a friend's house. He was rushed to the UK hospital with critical injuries and upon arriving to the hospital his heart stopped but was brought back to life by the grace of God also by the doctors and nurses! Unfortunately during that time he lost 18 minutes of oxygen to his brain and suffered brain damage. His official diagnosis was an Anoxic Brain Injury. He has underwent multiple surgeries on his body and brain and is still fighting everyday to get better. Doctors said at first there was no hope and wanted to pull the plug but I refused to give up on my son and after a second opinion I was given hope and told that he does have brain activity and could over come all of this with years of physical therapy. He will have to learn to walk and talk and eat on his own again but it will happen! I am determined to give my son the best possible care I can give him. He stayed in UK hospital for a total of Two and a half months and was transferred to Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Hospital for six weeks and is now home in my care. He is still bed bound and has a feeding tube but he laughs and smiles and talks everyday! And everyday gets a little bit stronger. His brothers and sisters help so much and as much as they can but it is still hard and his insurance only covers so much, I only ask for what you can and even if nothing at all just a prayer for my son! Any donations will go towards all medical supplies and such for my son. We would like to get a wheelchair ramp to be built and even maybe make our bathroom more handicap accessible for him and any other medical supplies not covered by his insurance that are very expensive.
Also, the person or people who have done this to my son still have not been caught or even identified.
Me and his father and his brothers and sisters and Lito's whole family want to see those people be caught and put in jail but even more for him to just get stronger and better. I can't thank the doctors and nurses enough for everything they have done to save my son's life, I will forever be grateful. Again anything helps.
