Adult Brain Injury Survivors Anthem

Each year, an estimated 1.7 million people sustain a traumatic brain injury (TBI) annually. Of them: 52,000 die, 275,000 are hospitalized and 1.365 million (nearly 80%) are treated and released from an emergency department. Depression, confusion, speech impairment, memory loss, physical disability, and social isolation may prevent a brain injury survivor from caring for family or returning to work ever again. For those who survive brain injury, their lives are altered forever.

Journeyman New Orleans Blues musician Red Priest's marriage was irrevocably changed when his wife suffered severe brain injury.  Since that day, Red has been an active advocate and caretaker in the Adult Brain Injury Survivor (ABIS) community.

Inspired by brain injury survivor Carlos Puig, Red awoke in the middle of a Southern Louisiana winter's night determined to finish a song he was writing about survivors of adult brain injury. Red Priest dedicates this anthem to survivors of brain injury everywhere and he hopes it's presence will help to promote awareness of the needs of brain injury survivors and the ABIS community.

A brain injury is the second highest cause of disability and can happen to anyone of any age, gender, race or socioeconomic status. With your help, Red Priest and ABIS are hoping to fund the production and distribution of the single "Listen To Us", an anthem to help promote awareness of the needs of adult brain injury survivors everywhere. When we reach our goal, anyone who has donated and provided contact information will be notified for early release distribution on the single.

If you can, please help by donating. Even a little bit goes a long way. If you can't donate, please share with the people you care about most.

Progress will be posted on the ABIS website events page:
