In November, my mother in law Lisa Edwards Sarder received some devastating news. She had just been helping her elderly parents for the last several months while they were facing health issues and running tirelessly helping them in any way she could. She would go to work all day, then go take care of her parents and then not get home until very late at night. While all of this was going on, she caught a cold, had lost some weight, and felt the lymph nodes in her neck were swollen. She went in to see her doctor, who did a chest x ray and saw an unusual mass in her right lung. This then turned into a cat scan of her chest, which showed a cancerous looking mass. She then met with oncology in which they recommended she have a bronchoscopy where they could biopsy the tissue. Also, she had to have a PET scan. The PET scan didn’t “light anything up” so this was good, but they told us it “doesn’t mean it’s not cancer.”
She went through the bronchoscopy with the biopsy and were able to call the mass in her right lung “adenocarcinoma.” She then met with a thoracic surgeon in green bay to discuss her options. He wants to remove this mass via surgery. Until he gets in and looks at this mass, this cancer cannot be “staged.” He is hopeful- we are all very hopeful -that surgery is the “cure.” However, we will not know 100 % until surgery is done. We will cross that bridge when we get to it for now! Prayers it truly is the cure! We have been told that Lisa is one of the “lucky ones” to have been caught at such an early stage in lung cancer.
When meeting with this doctor, there was also the unfortunate discovery that there is a large cyst displacing her bladder. This brought her to yet another appointment with a GYN surgeon in Green Bay. He thinks this also looks suspicious for cancer. He wants to remove this mass and also remove her uterus, so another surgery.
However, the two surgeons are coordinating together and the game plan is to have two surgeons do two surgeries the SAME day to get this all taken care of at once- lung surgery and a hysterectomy with cyst removal at the same time.
This is going to take weeks of recovery!
Weeks of lost time from work. Weeks of no supplementary income coming in ( she lost much of her time off helping take care of her parents when they were ill) Weeks of worrying about how to pay the electric, the water, the mortgage, etc. Not to mention SO many medical bills coming in as well with everything she has gone through already.
She is doing her best to be strong right now. She has wonderful friends and family who care deeply about her health, recovery, and happiness.
Our hope is to raise money to defray medical costs and also costs of living while recovering from such a big surgery.
She is a single, hard working woman who doesn’t have the financial means to face this burden alone.
We need her feeling well and worrying less about the finances.!
Any support is welcome. Any donation big or small helps. (donations are secure on this site and can be made anonymously if you choose)
Thank you for thinking of her and please send prayers and well wishes for her as she continues her fight!
(we will let you know once we have a surgery date set!!!)
