Our profound thanks to all who've contributed to Lisa's Warrior Campaign! We've reached the initial financial goal...you are all awesome! Because this is going to be a long battle, and Matt has needed to cut back on his normal work schedule, we're updating the financial target periodically to provide them with ongoing support to continue their fight against this disease. HER STORY: Our beloved Lisa, Matthew's fiancee, began feeling unwell in November, with belly discomfort and bloating. A visit to the ER revealed cancer in her abdomen. After many scans and biopsies, it was determined that she had a very rare peritoneal mesothelioma. Needless to say, it's been a shock to all who love her. But she's been fortunate to be connected with a world renowned mesothelioma specialist at UC San Diego. She had an initial consult with him Jan. 4, and a battle plan has been formulated. She will have 4 rounds of chemo (the first being today, Jan. 10), 3 weeks apart, after which more scans will reveal how the cancer is responding. Depending on what's found, she'll be continued on the chemo, then go back to San Diego for surgery.
As frightened as we all are, Lisa is a superbly strong young woman, with the best can-do attitude you can imagine. She and Matt are going to battle with this disease, and we know she can win. Needless to say, the expenses involved in this process are rather overwhelming. Between the medical expenses, travel expenses and loss of income for both of them, they're going to need great and ongoing support, both financial and emotional. The response to our initial campaign has been phenomenal...so many people from so many areas of their lives (and ours) have stepped up in a big way to contribute. We cannot express to you the gratitude they, and we who love them, feel.
We hope that you will consider checking in periodically with any further support you might be able to offer. We don't know how long this battle will need to be waged, but any reduction in financial stress allows Lisa and Matt to focus more fully on her recovery.
