Lisa's Medical Expenses Early Onset Alzheimers

Donation protected
Dear Family, Friends and All other lovely people who like to help others;

I’m raising money to help with care expenses for my beloved cousin Lisa Millsap. Lisa was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s disease in 2015 at only 55 years old, and her disease is now severe, requiring 24/7 care and help with all things in her daily life. The disease has taken away all she's lived for.  She occasionally doesn’t even know her husband, and it’s heartbreaking to watch, I just had to do something to help. Alzheimer’s care, as you may already know, is not covered by traditional medical insurance, so  I hope you will help me give Lisa's husband Mel a financial hand with these expenses.

My goal today is to raise $100,000 for one year of Lisa’s care. The situation has become urgent because Lisa and her husband live in North Dakota and I am in California.  I've been out to ND twice this year already for a total of about a month.  The entire family is pitching in as much as possible and now we need your help.  Any amount you are willing to donate is greatly appreciated., I hope you will read mine and Lisa’s story below and with an eternally grateful heart, thank you - Jamie Monozon.

I grew up as Lisa’s little cousin side kick, she being 6 years older than me.  Anytime Lisa was around I knew I was going to have a great day while she made awesome childhood memories for me. Her favorite thing to do with me was to load me and her dog Henry into a side-car on her Moped (a motorized bicycle - this would never be allowed today, but in the 70’s it was perfectly legal.) We’d head to the beach or a park and spend the whole day playing frisbee catch with Henry. Lisa was my idol, the coolest, prettiest most awesome relative I had.  She was adventurous and she made sure we always had fun no matter what!

Lisa met the love of her life, Mel when she was in middle school and by high school they were madly in love and have been inseparable ever since!  Lisa served our country in the Air National Guard and Mel served as a career Master Sergeant in the US Airforce.  Mel was awarded a Purple Heart for injuries he sustained during the terrorist attack bombing of the Khobar Towers in Saudi Arabia during Desert Shield and Desert Storm. He now works for the Airforce as a civilian, training the young new airman and airwomen. He’s an awesome guy, proud to be a military Veteran, and an amazing husband and friend to Lisa.

Inseparable Mel and Lisa loved camping and exploring nature. They rode motorcycles, 4 wheelers, and snowmobiles. They raised horses, galloped on trails, and Lisa shared her love for horses with her daughter, granddaughter, and me. We rode her horses together when I visited her in North Dakota and I just loved to see that big huge smile on her face.

In 2003 Lisa had a massive heart attack.  In the two years that followed she had heart bypass surgery and 5 stints. Our family has a history of heart disease early in life, and it has taken several family members way too soon. Lisa was strong enough to survive and she made the best of it for years after. After recovering she slowly went back to all of her favorite hobbies and was doing well thanks to modern medicine.  However, none of us knew what was lurking around the corner.

Fast forward to today - Lisa turned 59 in May, and her late stages of
Alzheimer’s are in full swing.  Mel needs to continue working so he found a wonderful memory care facility where Lisa can spend her days while he is at work. The cost is high and will get higher while they prepare to qualify for Medicare. Though Mel has been selling their beloved horses, horse trailer, the truck that pulled the horse trailer, and the rest of their recreational possessions, he’s cracking a large nut, all while losing the love of his life ever so slowly and painfully.  Although Lisa can’t say much anymore, I know she would never want him to lose everything he’s worked hard for all these years, but he has no other option. That’s where you come into this love story…
