Lisa’s Miles for Mistletoe & Mammaries

Donation protected
Update 6th June 2025: While we’re so grateful to have reached our initial £7,000 target to help fund Lisa’s ongoing mistletoe treatment, Lisa has recently received difficult news regarding her breast reconstruction.

Due to her BRCA1 gene mutation, she will need a mastectomy and reconstruction of her remaining breast. The NHS won’t consider her for this complex DIEP flap surgery until at least October 2026, because of her previous cancer history and ongoing treatment. This means Lisa, who has had her first mastectomy in 2021, faces a wait of more than five years for reconstruction.

Over the past months, Lisa has had numerous consultations with different surgeons to explore her options, but the goalposts have continued to shift with each meeting, leaving her without clear or timely answers. This means private surgery is her only option to move forward sooner. However this comes at a huge cost of £37,500–£40,000. We’ve therefore increased our fundraising goal to help Lisa finally feel whole again. Thank you for your continued support.

Help Lisa’s Mistletoe Magic Continue - sponsor us for Miles for Mistletoe, our 15 mile walk in June - dressed in Christmas attire!

On April 7th, 2022, Lisa Coxon’s world was turned upside down when she was diagnosed with an incurable metasized cancer on the brain after what was believed to be a victory over triple-negative breast cancer. Lisa had first been diagnosed with breast cancer in 2020, at just 34 years old, and after undergoing a long and grueling journey of treatments and surgeries, she thought she was on the path to recovery. But just two years later, the cancer spread to her brain, and she received the devastating news that her condition was now secondary, incurable cancer. At the time, Lisa was given a prognosis of just 13 months to live. Yet, despite the odds, Lisa has outlived that original prognosis and continues to fight with fierce determination, all while being a loving mother to her two young boys, aged 5 and 9.

In the face of an incurable diagnosis, Lisa didn’t just sit back. She climbed Mont Blanc, raising over £4,000 for cancer research, explored alternative treatments, and secured a place on a clinical trial for a life-prolonging drug. But after two years, she had to leave the trial in October 2024, and now, Lisa is relying on a special treatment called mistletoe therapy - a treatment that has shown promise in improving survival and quality of life for cancer patients. The problem? Mistletoe therapy is not funded by the NHS and costs a small fortune. Lisa has been able to keep this lifeline going thanks to the incredible generosity of friends, family, and even strangers who believe in her strength and resilience.

Now, 15 amazing women are coming together to raise funds to support Lisa’s mistletoe treatments with a Miles to Mistletoe Walk through the Green Hen Round in the Lake District, on 7th June.

We’ll be strapping on our walking shoes, dressing in festive Christmas attire, and walking 15 miles to raise money for Lisa’s ongoing treatments. It might be June, but the holiday spirit is alive and well as we walk for Lisa’s future, her family, and all the lives she continues to touch with her bravery and perseverance.

Why Mistletoe? Because just like the mistletoe at Christmas, Lisa is a symbol of hope, love, and connection. It’s a reminder to never take a moment for granted, to celebrate life, and to do everything we can to support those we love. Lisa’s journey has been about finding joy in the fight, and we want to keep that going. The more money we can raise, the more Lisa can continue her treatments and keep showing cancer who’s boss!

But we need your help. We’ve got the walk, we’ve got the spirit, and we’ve got the Christmas outfits (even in June!), but we need funds to continue Lisa’s treatment.
Every penny counts in this fight. Your support will help Lisa stay strong and continue fighting - so she can keep being the amazing mum, wife, daughter, sister, and friend that we all know and love.

So, if you can, please donate. Share this page. And if you see any of us walking 15 miles dressed as Christmas elves in the summer heat, give us a wave, a high-five, or a donation to help us keep walking and keep Lisa’s magic alive.

Thank you for being part of Lisa’s journey and for helping to spread love, hope, and mistletoe magic!
