Lisa's Journey: Donate for Her Surgery
Donation protected
Hi. My name is Lisa. In 2023, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Because of my family history, I opted for a double mastectomy and wanted reconstructive surgery down the road. The initial surgery seemed to have gone well. I had tissue expanders put in place so I could eventually have implants put in place. Almost 2 weeks after surgery, my incision started leaking and opening. My plastic surgeon kept pushing the exposed tissue expander back in and suturing it shut. At one point, I was sent to radiology to see if I had a seroma. They punctured my expander. I was leaking blue along with whatever else I was leaking. Fast forward to November 17, the day I was supposed to receive implants and move forward with reconstruction. I ended up with sepsis and a bacterial infection in both incisions. Thanksgiving day, I had my implant removed. This experience has been traumatic, to say the least. I finally found a surgeon who will do the surgeries I need in order to fix my deformed chest, but it's in Louisiana and it is not going to be covered by my insurance at all. I hate asking for help or handouts even when it's offered, but I am tired of feeling incomplete and not whole.
The first surgery needed, I will have to stay in Louisiana for 1 week. Nick will be going with me, so this means 1 week of no income and a heap of expenses. Then once we return home, I will not be allowed to work for 6 weeks.
The second surgery will keep us in Louisiana for 5 days, and I will be out of work for 4 weeks.
I know that we are approaching the holidays and I'm asking a lot and again it is not an easy ask.
If you find you are able to donate, thank you so, so much!
