Lisa's Disability Insurance Debacle

This is the story of Lisa Rose and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Disability Insurance Debacle.
My friend Lisa needs to have surgery to correct a spinal deformity. She's been heartbroken ever since she found out: she's a passionate dancer who had recently started competing, and winning, when she found out. Her doctors have told her that she will likely never dance again.
Unfortunately, Lisa's been through one obstacle after another: from finding a doctor she trusts, to setting up the surgery and getting the pre-op materials, to finding a place to stay and people who are able to be home with her to take care of her while she can't move, to being able to afford the surgery itself even after her insurance pays for part of it. During each phase, she's had something or something that makes every step of this ordeal just that much harder to deal with.
The most recent news Lisa recieved is just the icing on the cake: she needs two months of recovery time, and her disability insurance was denied because her spinal deformity is considered a "pre existing condition." This means that she will be out of work for two months with no income at all whatsoever.
She's at her wits end, and I can't blame her. She's anxious and stressed and depressed. It's heartbreaking for us, her friends, because we love her and hate seeing her in so much distress. Since none of us are independently wealthy, we've run out of ideas on ways we can help her out.
