Roscoe's Vet Bills | Lisa Landman

Donation protected
My name is Lisa Landman and Sunday afternoon was one of the worst days of my life.  I was driving down my driveway as 4 of my dogs were playing outside.  We have 6 dogs in our home, 5 are rescues that we have been blessed with.  Our "pack" is amazing and special and we are so lucky to have found these incredible dogs.  They enhance our lives in so many ways and are truly special.  The four playing outside came running toward my car as they usually do.  I slowed down to a crawl because they have no sense when it comes to cars and seem oblivuos to the danger.  Two of the bigger dogs were playng chase while the other 2 were running by the car.  As the 2 larger dogs came closer to the car, one of them jumped toward my smallest dog, Roscoe.  Roscoe, in turn, jumped to get out of the way and ran under my car.  Before I knew what had happened, I ran him over.  I heard a yelp and looked out my window and he was under the back tire.  I pulled the car off of him and jumped out screaming as loud as I could to try and get my husband's attention from in the house.  Roscoe was bleeding profusely from his mouth and couldn't stand up-he was just writhing in pain on the ground.  My husband ran outside to see what was happening.  I yelled for him to grab a blanket and he scooped up Roscoe and jumped in to the back of my car.  We drove like crazy to get him to the emergency animal hospital in Norwalk.  We were able to get him there quickly and they took over trying to save his life.  For the next several hours, my husband and I sat in the hospital waiting to hear whether Roscoe was going to make it.  My husband's shirt was covered in blood and he didn't have time to grab any shoes.  I had blood all over my pants and my shoes were covered in blood.  All we could do was sit, wait, pray and cry.  The doctor's at VCA in Norwalk were amazing.  They went right to work trying to save him.  They would step out and give us updates often which we were very thankful for.  After a few hours they came out to tell us where things stood.  Amazingly, Roscoe had no broken bones or internal bleeding.  Turns out all the blood that we were covered in came from a broken tooth.  That was the good news.  The bad news was that he had suffered trauma to his head and  his brain was swelling.  They were going to monitor him closely but he was in critical condition and the next 24-48 hours were going to be tough.  They sent us home to get some rest (that didn't happen) and told us they would update us in the morning but that we could call whenever we wanted to see how he was doing.  We called a few times during the night and his status remained the same.  The next day Roscoe had a CT scan to determine if there was bleeding or hemmoraging in his brain and how bad the swelling was. Turned out there was no bleeding or hemmoraging-finally some good news.  However, his brain was swollen and he would need to remain in the hospital in ICU for a couple more days.  They were able to begin treating the brain injury more aggressively now that they knew there was no bleeding.  Each day we would call for updates and visit him and each day thankfully he began to improve.  After 4 days in the hospital, we were able to bring him home.  He is still recovering and on 3 different types of medication but his doctors believe he will make a full recovery.  We are so thankful to all the doctors and staff at VCA that treated Roscoe and supported us through this horrible ordeal.  They were absolutely amazing.  However, now we have the doctor/hospital bills for his emergency treatment and care which we are struggling to pay  The total cost of Roscoe's emergency  was $6500 which we owe immediately.  We are asking for help to cover these expenses that saved his life.  We are so thankful to have him home with us and we would appreciate any help that you can provide.  We just can't imagine our lives without him and our "pack" together.  Thank you so much.

Lisa Landman and her husband thank all the donors that helped their family through this tough time. Roscoe is fully healed and it was all possible because of the wonderful VCA staff and generous donors. Lisa Landman's family is extremely thankful for all the help that has been provided.
