Legal Fund For Lisa Kusch Case
Donation protected
Lisa Kusch has served women in Saskatchewan, Canada for over 20 years. She is accused of engaging in the practice of midwifery without the authorization to do so. She has pled not guilty to this charge.
Traditional birth attendants across Canada stand with Lisa and call for an end to this legal harassment of independent birth workers.
The acquisition of the right to control our own bodies and births is advancing much too slowly in Canada. Yet another court case is underway. Please contribute to the fund for Saskatchewan birth attendant Lisa Kusch.
UPDATE November 1/2017:
According to Lisa, the trial has now been adjorned to March and increased from one day to three days. It is certainly very difficult for Lisa to go through this - but she cannot give up, because it's not only her rights she is fighting for.
Please help Lisa's fight to the best of your ability. If you are a birth worker, this is your fight, too.
" When one midwife is fighting a battle she is fighting it for all midwives. We are all fighting the same battle because we are all midwives. So many midwives think that they are better than another but we all the same. Ain't no different from another. So when a midwife is fightin' a battle, send her $50-$100 to help her. When you are fighting a battle do not be afraid. Tell the truth. Look to the hill where your blessing is comin' from, that's where all mine come from." ~ Margaret Charles Smith, African-American midwife, who was born in 1906 and delivered over 3,500 babies before she was forced to stop her profession. (as quoted in "From Calling to Courtroom").
