I encourage you all to watch the full video above to get more context to the situation.
The money raised will go directly to my mother to pay for assisted living. She is on SSDI fixed income and only gets $1400 a month. This cannot afford any type of senior living, assisted living, or nursing care.
My name is Joseph M Wint Jr the son of Lisa Ann Wint. Since I am my mother's caretaker and closest of kin I have been trying to help my mom get back on her feet after she beat death 3 times over the last year.
As shown above in the video, she overdosed in Dec of 2022. This caused her to be on a ventilator for 2 weeks where she was in a coma state. It came down to the last 48 hours before we had to pull her off life support when she finally woke up. This was her first victory and we all were so happy we didn't lose her.
2 months later, she was rushed to the ER with heart palpitations. Once again her oxygen levels were so low and they found a blood infection, this caused her to be intubated again with a ventilator. She stayed under hospital care in and out of the ICU for 5 months straight and then was released to a nursing home in Detroit MI.
During her stay at the nursing care facility she was attacked by another patient and injured her knee and bumped her head causing a severe concussion... The knee injury spread into infection, that infection spread throughout her whole leg, from waist to ankle. She was then transferred to Garden City Hospital where they treated the wounds daily as puss and blood would have to be extracted on an hourly basis, all the while taking massive amounts of antibiotics, which destroyed her stomach and organs. On her Birthday Dec 26 she was rushed into a surgery to remove the infectious tissue, before the surgery the doctor warned me that she might come out with only one leg because the leg was that bad where they might've needed to amputate... Luckily the surgery was a success and they saved her leg.
Then started the rehab process, where she had to learn to walk again. Shortly after her mental state started to deteriorate because of the brain damage suffered in the coma. She was diagnosed with early onset dementia and Alzheimer's disease.
As of right now she has exhausted her Medicaid funds, which I don't even know how that is legal. They are refusing to pay for her nursing care... So she has been in and out of hotels, motels, hospitals and even worse homeless shelters. If we could only raise enough money we could put her in an assisted living facility that would provide rehab, physical therapy, meals, 24 hour nursing, medicine dispensing, etc. Those assisted living facilities are extremely expensive and she just cannot afford it nor can our family...
We are living in a world with a broken system... Our mentally ill loved ones are homeless... Walking the streets... Sitting in jail cells... Why? Because in the late '60s they did away with the insane asylums (FOR GOOD REASON) because of ethical reasons. So now we have a revolving door... Our sick are not getting the care they need. Our disabled can't afford food on the budgets they are given. I'm here today to try and get my mom some finances for her medical bills and living expenses.. For a future roof over her head.... For a chance. I'm trying to give her a chance...
My heart goes out to all the EMS, hospital workers, Officers, Judges and others who try to solve and deal with these problems on the daily.
If we work together I pray that there will be a solid solution at the end of this... It just might take decades.
If you can spare anything it would be more than appreciated.. It will go to help somebody who couldn't help themselves.
Love,
Joey Wint
