Support Lisa through Recovery from Dec. surgery!
Donation protected
Dec 1st, Update:
Lisa was able to have her second surgery after Thanksgiving.
She will return home soon to begin the recovery process all over again, and remain forced out of work while she is healing. No manual labor of any sort allowed, which if you know Lisa, the most frustrating part of this ordeal has been not being physically able to help others, her animals or herself. She can't wait to get back to work as a caretaker.
It's a long road ahead, but she has had support from all of us here to keep her going.
Your donations have helped keep the bills paid and food on the table.
If you are currently able to donate for the first, or a second time, we are all grateful. Any amount large or small is helpful.
Thank you so much everyone who has donated money, shared this link, dropped off horse feed, or called to check on her.
She knows she is loved!
Original June Post:
Hey guys and gals.
Your favorite most caring crazy horse lady, Lisa Underwood, recently had to undergo a (successful) emergency surgery. Cowgirls aren't known for our desire to visit the doctor or heaven forbid take up space in line at the emergency room. Thankfully she did, or she might not have been with us today. I didn't ask if I could share the particulars, so I won't, but what I do know is what was quickly becoming a life-or-death situation, ended up being able to be a clean text-book operation.
She is currently sore as all hell, but she's sassy and willful. Incoming, horse joke: When she stood up for the first time in her hospital room, I saw an opportunity I couldn’t pass up, and I said loudly over the nurses, "Keep your eyes up and look where you want to go..." I knew I was also entering into a life-or-death situation, but it made her chuckle before whispering an empty threat as she got to her feet. This surgery will leave her recovering at home and unable to work for at least a month. She of course plans on getting back to work as soon as possible, but she will also have to have a second surgery, and recovery closer to September-October.
Most people I know couldn't afford not to work for a week, much less a month. She lives simply herself, and still gives her animals the best care of anyone I know. As you'd expect from her, she's mainly concerned about her animals and not ever wanting to inconvenience others.
On the flip side, you know she's loaned you a horse, a bridle, a trailer ride or a literal helping hand anytime there's an opening. She's been in and behind the scenes of every equestrian team meet, 4h event and the general horse culture in the Rogue Valley as long as most of us can remember.
Her animals are all currently safe and cared for by friends and family. It would be a huge weight lifted off her shoulders if we can pull together and help bridge the financial gap she's going to face in the coming months from basic monthly and medical bills.
If everyone who has experienced her caring and thoughtfulness can spare a few dollars, well, we'll probably crash the go fund me website. Haha.
I do have her expressed (although medicated) permission to post this Go Fund Me Page.
So, let’s spread it far and wide before she changes her mind and makes me take it down. >D
Please contact us if you’d prefer to donate in person, via CashApp or Venmo.
