Lisa Salberg's new heart
Donation protected
I would like to tell you about my wife, my best friend, my inspiration: Lisa Salberg. Most of you know of her tireless fight for patient advocacy on behalf of patients with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM). Lisa started the HCMA www.4hcm.org 20 years ago, dedicating her life to those in need of education, advocacy. advice and treatment options for this congenital heart disorder. She left her well-paying position of 18 years as a HR Manager to devote her life to this cause. By doing so, she has touched the lives of literally thousands of HCM patients, family members and medical professionals through the HCMA, the National Centers of Excellence, Legislation, Publications and, of course, her personal touch.
What many did not realize was the extent of her own battle with HCM. Lisa is fiercely proud and did not want her own diagnosis to detract others from finding strength and guidance from her and the HCMA. Her fight has been long and difficult; including endless medications, multiple device surgeries, suffering a stroke due to complications of HCM and now ultimately requiring a Heart Transplant. Lisa has been listed and is awaiting implantation.
When Lisa decided to leave personal gain aside in order to create the HCMA, it was never a question that it was the right thing to do. While we were never well off by any stretch, I always worked hard to provide enough for my family to allow her to follow her path. The HCMA pays Lisa a modest income, but is a mere shadow of her previous income let alone her true worth. Lisa will be going on disability very soon and lose this modest income leaving our financial future in doubt.
With looming medical bills in our future, we are reaching out to those that she has helped as well as those that know of her incredible story and accomplishments.
We only look to cover her medical, rehabilitation and prescription bills, and required living space modifications for post-transplant. We refuse to profit one dime from this request: ANY FUNDS COLLECTED IN EXCESS OF HER NECESSARY MEDICAL RELATED EXPENSES WILL BE DONATED TO THE HCMA.
Thank you for your caring, love and support.
