Our dear friend Lisa Marie Rodrigues-Doolabh passed away on Monday, March 16, 2020 at Regional Hospice Center in Danbury, CT after a long, and very difficult three-year battle with cancer.
Lisa was a beautiful person inside and out—kind, patient, brilliantly intelligent, and thoughtful— and her sons Kieran and Aiden meant the world to her.
I met Lisa seven years ago at Saint Gregory the Great School, where we both had two children in the same classes (at that time it was 3rd and 6th grade). Our kids had so much in common that they became fast friends, as did we with Lisa and Ajit. Both of our families were transplants in Connecticut with no family even remotely nearby, but we both deeply believed in the value of family and community. We often talked about how our own families, though so far away, helped us feel grounded and brought us back to center. It was natural then that we became extended-family. In her final weeks in Hospice, I learned quickly that this value of ‘family’ extended into every facet of Lisa’s life. She was a magnet for drawing together good people. Lisa cared about people, and people loved her back.
In the three years that Lisa battled her cancer, we understood one thing very clearly— one of the most important things we could do to help Lisa was to look out for her boys. To know that there was a community of friends watching over Kieran and Aiden, loving them and caring for them like they are their own, brought Lisa an immense amount of comfort and gratitude. Before she passed away, we promised to continue to look out for her boys and to continue to be their community of love and support.
It was always Lisa’s desire that Kieran and Aiden continue with their Catholic school education at Immaculate High School, and go on to complete college. We want to honor Lisa by establishing this Fund to help fulfill her wishes for her sons. It’s purpose is to help pay school and college tuition expenses for Kieran and Aiden Doolabh.
We are so grateful for your generosity, loving kindness and support, and for choosing to be a part of Lisa’s community.
