Lisa Olson's Caregiving Support

Donation protected
Lisa Olson is the most resilient person most folks have ever met. There is so much she can do on her own, but Lisa was born without any limbs and, therefore, has required the assistance of caregivers throughout her life.

After being abandoned at birth and raised in an orphanage in India until age 5, Lisa was adopted by her mom, Marie, and was brought to the US. Marie was Lisa's primary caregiver for nearly 40 years, until she passed after a battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Now, Lisa relies fully on paid caregivers to assist with her daily needs.

The cost of such consistent and strenuous support far exceeds the resources that are available to Lisa. Her 17-year career was cut short when her position at a university was eliminated following the pandemic. Since that time, while seeking employment, some of Lisa's funding has been met through generous gifts from friends and family as well as limited government assistance. In addition to the high cost, the challenge of recruiting, hiring and managing the turnover of qualified, compassionate caregivers, falls to Lisa.

In 2022, Veronica O'Sullivan published a children's book, "Glory Be!", in the hope of generating revenue that could be donated to meet Lisa's needs. The project was a joy to create and promote, however, the proceeds have been limited and book sales have dwindled over time. As a result, Veronica and her husband, David, have started a campaign to raise funds to help offset the shortage of caregiving funds that affects Lisa month after month.

On March 1, 2025, they will be participating in the Myrtle Beach Marathon. Running 26.2 miles was a goal David set for himself to accomplish at age 50. While training has been difficult, with each mile, they are reminded of the difficulties Lisa faces each day and the sheer determination with which she perseveres.

Lisa has touched their lives, and so many others, in a profound way, which is why, to match their goal of 26.2 miles, they have set a goal of raising $26,200 to establish a special needs trust for Lisa.
