Help Lisa Fight a Serious Infection and Mounting Medical Bills

In April, my life changed unexpectedly. I went to the ER because I could no longer walk. Doctors found an abdominal infection and admitted me for surgery. I spent four days in the hospital and was out of work for two weeks, unable to walk or drive.

In early May, I returned to the ER with a fever and worsening symptoms. A CT scan revealed a fractured pubic bone, and I was transferred to Sioux Falls hospital for another four days. When I was discharged, I had a PICC line placed so I could receive two daily IV antibiotics at home. This meant more time off work—without pay—as well as weekly home health visits for blood work and dressing changes. I also had to undergo regular CT scans and meet with an infectious disease specialist every three weeks.

In mid-June, I landed back in the ER. Another IV medication was added to my daily treatment. By the end of June, doctors told me the medications were no longer killing the infection—only holding it at bay.

A CT scan in early August brought more bad news: the infection had worsened and was now in the L5 right side of my spine. We’re now headed back to Sioux Falls to meet with specialists, undergo more testing, and another surgery.

Between hospital stays, medications, travel for care, and time off work, the financial strain has become overwhelming. Any donation, big or small, will go directly toward medical expenses, travel costs, and bills while I’m unable to work.
