Lisa Leslie's Home: Harvey flood

Lisa Leslie needs your help.

No, not the former WNBA player who was also a four-time Olympic gold medal winner. Lisa Leslie, a single mom of three and medical technologist in League City, Texas. She needs your help.

Hurricane Harvey flooded Lisa's small, one-story home, causing about $18,000 in damage. FEMA stepped in and gave her a check for $9,000, but Lisa is stuck with bills for the rest.

Lisa was a medical technologist at Bay Area Regional Medical Center during the storm. She heroically stayed in the laboratory for the duration of the emergency, sleeping on an air mattress. She worked and slept at the hospital for five days. She couldn't even leave the hospital to save her own home.

Her freinds and family and neighbors stepped in to help her. I'm one of her friends in the local area, and I coordinated the cleanup effort while she was at work. Now, since she still doesn't have an Internet connection, I'm helping her raise money.

We cleaned up the soggy mess. A Facebook message brought 30 volunteers from the local community. Most of her belongings are now in a soggy pile by the curb, waiting to be carted away.

Lisa needs about 35 sheets of drywall, along with the mud, tape, screws, and paint that go along with that. The hardwood floors in her 1,080 home need to be replaced, at about $5 per square foot. Her deck is rotting, requiring 44 treated deck boards, deck screws. And she needs to pay the labor costs to do all that work.  Sne needs about $9,000 to rebuild her life.

If you can hang drywall or build a deck, you could donate some labor to the cause. But most of us don't have those skills.

She needs the funds by the end of September so she can rebuild her kids' bedrooms. They would love to stay at their mom's place, but that's not feasible right now.

Lisa is the only recipient of the funds. I'm not set up to withdraw money from the account. It all goes to her. (Except for GoFundMe's overhead.)

Thank you for considering a donation to Lisa Leslie's Harvey Relief Fund.
