Four weeks ago Jason went into congestive heart failure. Prior to this his heart was healthy. While the best guess at this point is that the virus which caused his pneumonia in December settled in his heart, the definitive cause is not and will never be known. Despite many courses of treatment, he progressed into advanced heart failure. He's also developed some concerns with his kidney function, which is not uncommon in this situation. He's undergone countless procedures and two heart surgeries, with the most recent surgery on March 1st to install a mechanical pump in his heart to take over the function of the left side of the heart. This surgery took about 9 hours, but he came through it like the force of nature that he is despite his critical health. He is stable and progressing at a pace his medical team expected. He's under the care of some of the best heart failure doctors and nurses in the country. Over the coming weeks he will progress to the point where he can come home to recover, and the pump will remain in his heart until he receives a heart transplant. He's handled this situation like a warrior, and gets up every day to fight to get better and to get home to his family.
As you can imagine, it has been difficult for Lisa to juggle the care of their toddler, Jack, and their baby girl is scheduled to arrive in early May. She has more than anyone could handle on her plate right now and don't want them to worry about bills piling up.
Any support that you can give would be greatly appreciated.
