Lisa is doing well and the doctors are happy with her progress. I want to mention that Lisa still needs help with medical bills and weekly travel back to Duke which requires a driver and most require at least one overnight stay. Please consider donating to the go fund me account.
TODAY IS THE DAY: Today Lisa got the call, she is getting her new heart. She is already at the hospital after her VTEC a week ago so there isn’t that feeling of having to rush to get there. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers!
UPDATE 8/14: After Lisa’s defibrillator went off on Saturday, she is now at Duke and looks like she will remain there until a new heart is ready. She has been moved up to level 3. Thank goodness for the defibrillator because they said if she hadn’t had that and someone hadn’t been there to start CPR, it could’ve been bad. It could be weeks as she waits but we are happy she is safe and in good hands.
UPDATE 7/14: After Lisa’s first trip to get necessary testing done, we have some additional info. One of the financial requirements is she must have $6000 in savings earmarked for the procedure. To some people, that may not seem like a lot but to Lisa and Nick, this is a substantial amount. When Lisa told the representative we have a GoFundMe setup, they said they would allow that to count. This means we have to keep working to meet our goal. Please consider donating any amount you can as Lisa’s case goes in front of the board next week for approval to move to the next phase of testing.
Can you imagine having a major heart attack at just 32? That's what happened to my beautiful, kind and funny cousin, Lisa. God decided it wasn't her time, but it hasn't been easy. Lisa has continued to have health challenges and medical procedures for the past two decades. Now, the doctors say her heart is not strong enough to continue and in the next couple of months, she will be put on the UNOS list for a new heart. As Lisa starts the process, there will be at least two trips to Duke University that will require travel expenses for her as well as her husband or another family member. There is a lot Lisa says she is concerned about, and expenses for travel and lodging are one of them. With this GoFundMe page, the family hopes to relieve some of that worry so she can focus on this major procedure, her recovery and enjoying time with her beautiful grandchildren.
