I'm reaching out to share the story of my incredible friend Lisa—a true fighter whose journey has been marked by resilience in the face of overwhelming challenges. In February 2018, Lisa was diagnosed with breast cancer. With immense courage, she underwent a mastectomy, followed by intensive chemotherapy and radiation treatments.

Initially, Lisa chose to have an implant for her reconstruction. However, complications soon emerged when a severe infection led to sepsis, forcing her to endure six grueling weeks of Hyperbaric Oxygen treatment. Determined not to be defeated, Lisa opted for DIEP Flap Reconstruction in 2021. During this procedure, surgeons discovered an encapsulated tumor—a startling reminder that the battle against cancer was far from over.

Despite these hurdles, Lisa’s fight has continued. Recently, the cancer returned for the third time, now affecting her lymph nodes. While surgeons managed to remove much of the affected tissue, extensive scarring from previous surgeries prevented complete removal. Now, Lisa is turning to innovative Proton Therapy—a treatment that targets cancer cells with precision while protecting healthy tissue. Sadly, Proton Therapy isn’t fully covered by her insurance, and the extended time off work also means Lisa is facing a loss of income.
